Sometimes doubts, insecurities, fears or anxiety about failure prevent us from moving forward, it is these little fears that become great obstacles on our way to what we really want, we just stumble and obsess over the idea of, we will fail.
This makes us obsess over possible stones along the way, rather than recognizing everything we’ve already covered, this makes us think more about the threats that may arise than the opportunities presented to us, we get carried away by our insecurities. to focus on our strengths.
We are our greatest threat to achieving our goals
Jorge Bucay, in his wonderful story entitled “Obstacles”, tells us about this mania for getting hurt. I hope you enjoy this story and your reflections.
I walk down a path. I let my feet take me.
My eyes are on the trees, on the birds, on the rocks, on the horizon you can see the silhouette of a city. I sharpen my gaze to distinguish it, I feel like I’m attracted to the city.
Not knowing how, I realize that in this city I can find whatever I want. All my goals, goals and accomplishments. My ambitions and my dreams are in this city. What I want to achieve, what I need, what I would most like to be, what I aspire to, what I try, what I work or what I have always aspired to, what would be the greatest of my accomplishments.
I guess it’s all in this town. I’m definitely heading for her. A few steps later, the road becomes steeper. I get a little tired, but it doesn’t matter.
I see a black shadow later along the way. As I approach, I see that a big gap prevents me from passing through. I’m afraid of doubts. I’m upset because I can’t achieve my goal in a simple way. Anyway, I decide to jump the ditch, should I take a step back, take the pulse and jump?I can get away with it. I get right back and I keep walking.
A few meters away another pit appears, I pick it up and I jump this one too. I run to the city: the road seems clear, I’m surprised by an abyss that interrupts my path, I’m done. You can’t skip it.
I see that on the side there is wood, nails and tools, I realize that they are to build a bridge, have you ever given me my hands?I’m thinking of giving up, do I look at the lens I want? And I resist.
I’m starting to build the bridge. Hours, or days or months pass, the bridge runs out. I’m having a good time. And when I get to the other side, I come across the wall. A gigantic wet, cold wall surrounds the city of my dreams?
Do I feel depressed? I’m looking for a way to dodge it. There’s no way. Is the city so close? I’m not going to let the wall stop me.
I’m ready to climb, rest for a few minutes and catch my breath?Suddenly I see a child looking at me like he knows me. I smiled complicity.
Do you remember me? when I was a kid
Perhaps that’s why I have the courage to express my complaint aloud:?Why are there so many obstacles between me and my goal?
Does the child shrug and respond to me? Why do you ask me that? Weren’t there the obstacles before you arrived? You brought the obstacles.
We put our own obstacles in the way when we become obsessed with thinking about all the bad things that can happen, when we think of the dark side of an unlikely future, but we realize with every thought, when fear overwhelms us and doubts arise. so powerful that all they add is anxiety.
Consider that we all stumble in life, but only those who surrender, even before we start the road, are overcome by obstacles.
We are putting obstacles in place, in some way, as protection against possible failures. That’s the excuse, see, did I tell you, when our worst fears were confirmed and we went out on the road or we couldn’t take on the challenge the first time.
We also create our obstacles because we are afraid of the uncertainty of what will happen in the next step towards our destiny, so we prefer to protect ourselves in the shadow of the bad, but known, rather than look for the good we have. We become cowards defeated by our own imagination, it is our ideas that become obstacles in the way of our journey.
So get used to seeing the bright side of reality. Triumph is achieved when people strive, either to learn or to achieve their own success. On the other hand, if you stumble again, look for the beauty that hides behind every shadow, obstacle, because as in the seasons people have the ability to change, remember that in this life survives the one who fights and fights, not the one who looks with fear at everything that can happen.
And, most importantly, don’t doubt your skills. Live life as you deserve, because we all stumble, but it is not the stumbles that mark life, but the lessons we learn from it. Keep walking, and when you’re facing the abyss, ask yourself if this precipice has been placed by you, covering your path of doubt. And now, are you going to complain about the obstacles you put into life yourself, or are you going to walk steady and fight fearlessly for what you want?
