When we talk about realities, we mean those that we can objectively perceive through our senses and which may or may not depend on our subjective interpretation. The difference between the actual fact and our interpretation can determine how we feel.
Therefore, we can feel or think differently in a given situation. Each person can interpret the same fact in different ways. What you see is actually a product created by your brain, which filters out infinite information, so that you can build your vision of the situation.
- Thoughts and emotions are closely linked.
- We feel a certain way.
- Depending on “how we think and what we think.
- “The way we interpret and process external facts is responsible for the physiological changes and bodily reactions that occur in us.
- Emotion reactions and we can classify them as pleasant.
- Unpleasant or neutral.
Many times we are unable to correctly distinguish an emotion from a thought and, although they are intimately related, they are different entities, so it is worth knowing how to differentiate them if we want to have control of our mood, the difference goes beyond its definition because it affects the way we recognize and treat it.
In psychology there are many cognitive biases or thought errors that are very common, but we do not realize that we have to deal with their consequences. A thought error can be defined as a sesained interpretation of what is actually happening. In words, I see my construction of reality, based on my beliefs and not on my senses. This interpretation may be completely different from what is happening.
These thought errors provoke exaggerated emotions, fanciful or illogical comments. The person who manages to look at the world with a more realistic vision and maintains a more rational dialogue with himself will have healthier and more functional emotions.
In therapy, a lot of people say, “I understand what you’re saying, but for me, the reality is how I feel and how I feel. “It’s a mistake to think: confusing feelings with realities. This argument, such as surreal or childish as it may seem, can lead to misconceptions and dysfunctional behaviors.
The truth is, reality is what it is, no more, no less. However, I can create subjective reality as I see fit, both for better and worse, and pay a very high price for it all. Often when I’m told the phrase, if I’m sorry, is it?, do I set the example of red snow or any other example that has to do with a certain color. Few people can argue about color!
I say then that this argument used is as if I suddenly said this: I realized that the snow is red and not white, because I feel it; So for me the snow is red?. Of course anyone who hears that would say I’m crazy. So as much as you feel the snow is red, it’s actually white.
This is what we do with the facts that happen in our lives. Sometimes we have a naive or very hard look, but it’s hard to see reality as it really is.
We can clearly see all this in anorexia nervosa; patients feel they have more weight than they actually have, feel it, and act accordingly. However, their height and weight, compared to the general population, are normal.
You realize what’s going on in your life and you force yourself to look out, wipe your glasses off?To see it well. Otherwise, we get used to looking sessed and don’t see the difference between? What is it and what do we think it is?
To do this we need to detect these thought errors that appear from time to time, today we talk about confusing thoughts and realities, but there is much more: personify a situation, play guessing, generalize a specific event, etc.
Once you have identified these errors, you should strive not to distort reality and perceive things as they are.
For example, when I think that “it is true that from my accumulated experiences and beliefs, I feel that I can fall into depression if he rejects me,” I realize that maintaining that feeling does not mean that I should always be like this. In fact, what you’re doing has little to do with what will happen to me next, I react according to my inner convictions.
As we practice we become more realistic and adapt to the world as water adapts to containers, the result is a quieter, fuller and happier life, where the realities you perceive are much more faithful than before, not a life full of pathologies. emotions that end up blocking us.
