We are used to talking about different psychological disorders depending on the symptoms that characterize them, but not their evolution, although this factor is of equal importance, if not more important, so that a mental disorder does not occur unexpectedly and also its symptoms. are random; on the contrary, any disorder forms a puzzle whose elements are logical and understandable.
So, we may ask ourselves: what happens for a psychological disorder to develop, what predispositions must exist in our minds? Is there a cause relationship?
Then we will know!
Psychological disorder, also known as mental illness, involves a change in a person’s behavior and reason. This disorder means that, in some cases, a normal life cannot be led or constant treatment is required to live in “normality”. The disorder is called a disorder when the problem limits the life of the person with it and becomes a cause of insufficiency and impaired reason.
There are different types of disorders, but the most common are:
After seeing the most common disorders, we ask ourselves: what about our minds for such disorders to appear, why do some people develop these types of disorders and others do not?
The first idea of developing a psychological disorder is trauma, a traumatic event in childhood (abuse, violence, abuse) can leave sequelae that endure and affect adult life, not to mention life, there is no specific age for the onset of trauma, what is known is that it can cause eating disorders, panic disorders , anxiety disorders or other disorders, as Sigmund Freud said:
Traumatic events that come from childhood are unconscious and can become conscious at any time and at any age. The conscious cannot in any way associate traumatic situations of childhood with everyday situations of adult life, which causes the development of a psychological disorder.
In this sense, we owe a lot to psychoanalysis. It sparked a revolution in the way we understand disorders and added to psychology the importance that the patterns we learn and internalize in childhood have in us in adulthood, so today approaches as recent as NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) are based on the existence of these patterns of intervention.
Some disorders develop due to genetics, this does not mean that if a member of our family has suffered from schizophrenia or depression, we too will develop it, but that possibility exists.
In particular, this can most often occur with the following types of disorders: autism, deficit and hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia.
As we mentioned, this does not necessarily mean that we develop a mental disorder if any member of our family has had one in the past, many factors come into play and are not the same for all individuals.
Some environmental factors can trigger the development of a psychological disorder, such as the death of a loved one can trigger a psychotic attack from the stress it generates, similarly, during divorce or drug abuse.
Social or cultural expectations can lead to disorders such as eating, especially among young people. Constant advertising that dictates a standard of body perfection and beauty aggravates this problem, increasing its incidence and increasing the age of risk.
As we have seen, several factors contribute to the development of a psychological disorder, there are other aspects that can influence, such as infections, brain damage or birth trauma, which can also promote the development of this type of disorder.
