Pausing, our parentheses of loneliness, silence and sensory disconnection are real vitamins for our heart and brain, it is a way to restart, to become aware of other kinds of deeper perceptions: those that arise from within and allow us to recover balance, mental harmony and well-being with ourselves.
Today we will reflect on the concept of “pauses”. How would we define them? If we asked someone, they would probably tell us that during the day she makes countless interruptions in her routine, she makes them when she gets on a train or bus and takes the opportunity to read, when she leaves work to eat and returns to the middle. an hour or an hour, or when you go to the gym.
“The beginning of the shadow is silence. -Pythagoras-
Now, these examples accurately reflect what we should consider “pauses. “The answer is no. In fact, these situations could be part of what are now called “active pauses”, that is, activities in which, although a work task is not performed, we generate a series of movements and dynamics in which the mind and body are active.
Real pauses are those in which we establish a real disconnect with our environment, with our obligations and, most importantly, with the oppressive flow of our thoughts. These are times when we present ourselves: no pressures, noises or conversations to not want, no waits, requests or tasks to fulfill, no world to please?
We must admit that for many of us taking breaks means doing nothing, and doing nothing is little more than sacrilege in this society where time is “gold”, that is, “money”. Slowing down, stopping the wheels of time and choosing to spend an hour ourselves is not an easy goal to achieve, so something as simple as closing the door to what others expect from us, limiting ourselves to “being and being”, is not a task we are used to.
We were convinced that pauses are a privilege, not a right. This is what someone once told us and it is also what we continue to convey to the present generations. We see it every day, when our children return from school, we have to look at their schedules: they are full of tasks to be accomplished. Before that, however, they must go to their extracurricular classes, English, music, basketball, math tutoring and perhaps the educational psychologist to deal with their dyslexia or hyperactivity.
Pauses to play or just do nothing are already a privilege in the world of children, only access when they do their job well, if they do their job in advance, all this is reasonable, of course, because each of us has our obligations. ; But isn’t it hard to see, as adults, how can we not enjoy real breaks?
It is difficult to convince ourselves that yes, it is our right, that putting the rest of the world on hold to see us is neither an offense nor a sacrilege, in fact it is synonymous with health, however, much of the population still has this kind of difficulty during breaks:
Daniel Goleman said in his book? Approach? That the ability to take a break is vital to regain control of our attention, only then do we stop acting by impulse and automatically, as if we do not have our own life, taking the step, assuming this key to health, also has many more benefits than you think.
Let’s look at some of them below
To conclude, take breaks every day, quietly put your phone silently, tell others that it will take some time for yourself and that for a while you have chosen to be and feel, will not make you less valuable or less productive. person, on the other hand, you will gain in health, in personal growth, in emotional strength.
After all, life and nature also take their time, their rests, the clouds also shut up, the seas have their moments of calm, and the moon their moments of observation and reflection?
