Is optimism an innate thing or a quality?

Being an optimistic person goes far beyond a cheerful or funny personality, optimism is a habit of thinking that allows us to see the positive side of everything around us or the situations we have to go through.

The real optimist is not that dreamer who lives fantasizing. This does not mean seeing absolutely no “pink”, whatever the consequences and for no reason, or without accepting reality as it is.

  • An optimistic person can fully see and recognize difficulties.
  • But does not drown in them and sees them as an opportunity to change.
  • Improve.
  • And grow.
  • An optimistic person is confident and convinced that every problem represents new possibilities.

Even if optimism is closely related to good humour, the two things are not exactly the same. Optimism is a habit of positive thinking. Etymologically, optimism is defined as the tendency to wait and see the positive side of things.

A pessimistic person is not open to change, lowers self-esteem, buries opportunities for transformation and does not know how to value the successes achieved in any area of existence, the pessimist finds it difficult to take advantage of it, because he will always be waiting for what he lacks, the “half empty the glass “.

According to the study by psychologist Martin Seligman, both adults and children, optimistic people are less likely to suffer from depression, generally doing better in their studies and at work, and are in better health.

Optimism represents a true quality of emotional intelligence. This habit of positive thinking can be learned, or not, from a child in the family nucleus, when stimulated by the environment of the house; in fact, it is very common for children to have the same vision of life as their parents or families. , whether with a greater tendency to be pessimistic or optimistic.

To be optimistic means to show a positive attitude towards reality; it is a state of mind that we must and can certainly cultivate, optimism allows us to value our best qualities and those of others, without exaggerations or extreme judgments, it is just a matter of seeing things as they are, putting every mistake and disadvantage back in place, that is all.

It is very important that each of us discovers how our tendency to think and see reality, in case we notice a tendency to defeatism and pessimism we must re-educate ourselves to implement positive thinking.

When someone already has a deep-seated thinking habit, it makes sense that changing it isn’t easy, but it won’t be impossible either, we always have time to change, improve and flourish more in life.
