Multitasking, to our brain

Multitasking (doing several things at the same time) is not a good habit for our brain, it is not good to watch TV and talk on mobile while talking to our partner, this prevents concentration and results in a loss of cognitive and relational ability. effectiveness (to the extent that social media has become antisocial networks).

If we look at much of the literature published in recent years, including the articles we publish on this site, we will see that there is a current that tries to show the present time as a place forgotten by our conscience.

  • These phrases.
  • Pages and theories are just echoes of the current saying: “Hey.
  • Am I here?!We can hear them or not.
  • We encourage distraction and inhabit our brains to constantly changing tasks.
  • Also affecting the expression and control of our emotions.

No matter how concerned we are about the loss of information through the senses, the truth is that there are often messages that we cannot ignore.

Imagine a good man walking and stopping in the middle of the street to reflect on the conversation he will have with future in-laws over dinner, we agree that this is not exactly a good place to relax.

You may find the example exaggerated, but imagine a person in love with music or a radio show who has a habit of walking the streets with his headphones wearing in a busy neighborhood. This is not the same danger as the previous example, but it is not advisable.

Our melomaniac may be in the present because he is listening to a song, however, if you think about it, it is a pseudo-present because it is not natural right now.

In this sense, all the technology we create is one of the main factors responsible for the increase in the time we spend on this new dimension: multitasking.

We have devices that allow us to take movies or music anywhere, we become time optimizers, trying by all means to fill every moment of our lives with activities that we enjoy.

It is not that we live out of the present out of concern for the future or melancholy for the past, but that we are overwhelmed by different activities.

If we go to the gym, it’s not uncommon to meet an increasingly common character: the person exercises, reads an e-book and uses headphones.

It seems that we can no longer pay attention only to the present; what’s going on right now. We have the impression that we are wasting our time, that we have unemployed channels that could perfectly receive more useful or more enjoyable information.

We can walk with our partner and feel that we are not doing anything, we do not think about it, it is automatic: without realizing it we take out the laptop to check the latest updates on our social network or respond to messages waiting.

We do all this without realizing that we stopped listening, because we are simply occupying the meaning that was available. The problem is that we have only one brain, unable to handle two tasks that are not routine at the same time, to pay attention. two different topics that require understanding.

So, without realizing it, we don’t do two tasks at once, but we jump quickly from one to the other as if we went to the kitchen once in a while to see the turkey in the oven.

Why do we automatically run away from reality?

Perhaps from now on life is getting more agitated and increasingly eager to tolerate a moment of pause, one gets the impression that stimuli that are not naturally stressful have been contaminated by those who are, such as sitting down for a while or listening to a good friend made us very nervous. Think about it, is that really what you want?
