Paul Aluard, considered the greatest of surrealist poets, his defined literary personality, the expressive form that characterized him and the lyricism of his poems made him one of the great universal poets, he wrote to love with the same passion that made him free and against war.

He received, informally, all kinds of honorary titles: “Master of Surrealist Poetry”, “The Most Classic of Modern Poets”, “The Poet of Freedom?”Or “The Greatest Poet of Love,” among others. It seems that all qualifiers are small in the face of the talent of this incredible poet.

“We need a few words to express the essentials; Do we need all the words to make it happen?-Paul Luuard-

Like other big names in literature, the secret to their poetry lies in the emotional and intellectual honor with which they were written. His verses have a subtle but profound imronta of authenticity.

In addition, his life has experienced contradictory and difficult episodes, with which he has dealt with creativity and intelligence. Its existence was also, in a way, a poem.

Paul Aluard was born in Saint Denis, France, a region of proletarian atmosphere, born on December 14, 1885 and his real name was Eugene Grindel, when he was only 12 years old he arrived in Paris and began his studies at the famous Lyceum Colbert.

However, he contracted tuberculosis and this forced him to drop out of school and spend a lot of time in a hospital in Switzerland, where his first poems were written.

His first book, Poems, dates back to 1911, during his time in the hospital he passionately read to all who became his literary references: Whitman, Baudelaire, Nerval, Rimbaud, Hulderin and Lautréamont. After this hard experience, Paul Lud was recruited, to fight in World War I in 1915.

Paul Lud was one of those poets who did not need a quiet environment to write his verses. In the middle of a trench, he composed two of his most famous works: “Duty and agitation? And ‘The laughter of the other’.

In late 1917 he was the victim of a severe gas attack that caused gangrene in the bronchi, which pulled him out of the fight and then sent back to a hospital in Paris.

During her first stay in the hospital, Paul Lud met another tuberculosis that stole her heart, she was a Russian girl named Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, but who was mentioned in history under the pseudonym with which she was soon recognized by all: Gala. the war separated them, but they soon met in Paris in 1917 and married.

The greatest quality of the Gala was not fidelity, and that was clear from the beginning, when he met the German painter Max Ernst, she was attracted to him. It is not known whether, due to a wide range of mental illnesses or desperate love, Paul Lud did not oppose this relationship, in fact, the three ended up living together on the outskirts of Paris.

Later, during the holidays, Gala met someone who would be the great love of her life: Salvador Dalí, which ended her marriage to Paul Éluard in 1929 and then led him into a deep depression. Shortly after this episode, the poet went around the world. world, like a wandering traveler. During this period he also wrote some of his best poems.

Paul Eluard then married twice. At first, with a woman he called “Nusch”, who was a model for Pablo Picasso. The marriage was consolidated in 1934, but she died in 1951. Soon she married Dominique, her last love, a year before her own death.

However, Paul Lud had become the poet of freedom; if his goal was not to make militant literature in the strict sense, he was tempted to express in his verses a claim of freedom and justice, against war. He collaborated with the French resistance and had to hide.

His antiwar poems are masterful pieces, as are his love poems. The most important thing about this amazing wonderful poet, in the opinion of the experts, was his ability to express the contradiction of feelings with deep balance and beauty. as one of the great masters of French lyricism.
