The good side of life? It tells the story of Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper), a young man who has just left a mental health center.
Pat’s problems began when, months earlier, he assaulted his ex-wife’s mistress and after his sentence was served, he returns to his parents’ house, who expect his son to rebuild his life with optimism and passion: the local football team.
Everything changes when Pat meets Tiffany, a troubled girl who offers to help him get his wife back.
David O. Russell’s film “The Winner” addresses two feelings: anger and generosity.
As far as anger is concerned, there is an irrefutable truth: we all lost the line at some point, we will not go into detail or tell stories that will surely bring us uncomfortable memories, but it is undeniable that nerves have betrayed us several. moments in our lives.
It is usually a specific anger, which does not have much impact in the near future, in others, on the contrary, bad feelings completely transform us, like violent monsters, full of anger.
When should we start worrying? When anger is part of the personality and doesn’t appear alone at a bad time.
If a brushstroke is isolated, it is impossible for it to be part of a painting, but if the brushstrokes are constant enough to form a face or landscape, then you should worry.
You could say that being angry is good in some situations, it’s healthy. Being infallible in a situation, expressing disgust with something or someone, is a way to vent.
It’s impossible to always be happy. It is essential to visit the opposite side of anger to reach universal destiny: happiness.
A healthy person is satisfied with his life, even if he is imbued with frustration and anger, that is, happiness is the norm by which existence is governed, but that happiness is sometimes altered by his antithesis. Both feelings are necessary.
The protagonist of the film decides to go further. When outrage takes hold of him, Pat uses force, physical violence, is that a sign? The answer is yes. Containment, in this case, is essential to maintaining good mental health.
It should also be considered that containment is necessary, unlike repression, not to be confused with another.
Repressing feelings for a long time can have a catastrophic result, the storage of anger only increases resentment, so it is necessary to release, sporadically, all the feelings and sensations that bother us.
According to the experts, a person who shows discomfort on a regular but controlled basis is more reliable than a person who never changes in the face of anything and who, one day, bursts (emotionally). It is this type of person who causes the most harm, because he expresses his pain suddenly and uncontrolledly, and the lack of control usually affects the society around him in a very negative way.
Sport is one of the most valuable options for fighting disproportionate outbursts of anger. Constant physical activity helps unload both the body and mind.
The film also conveys a message that, although it seems obvious, it is good not to forget it: the family is important, if not vital, to help us overcome any kind of problem.
In this role, the family is embodied by eccentric and comical characters, but their role is the same as that of any parent: helping the child overcome an unfavorable situation, in this case, aggression.
