The between getting old and getting older

Why do some people seem to age better than others? To answer this question, we sometimes attribute differences to health, for example, or financial stability; however, there is one detail that is usually forgotten: ageing and aging are different things.

The real answer does not seem to be health or economic conditions, there is no doubt that these points are useful, however, many people with these two facets of their lives in good condition seem to lead a very miserable life compared to others who face significant challenges in both aspects.

  • People who age with a young mind do not feel old.
  • On the contrary.
  • Many of them complain of having to perform activities.
  • Customs and habits “typical of the elders”.
  • It’s a reality that completely changes the way we understand aging.

My father was a person who never felt old, until the day of his death he had exceptional plans, studies and long-term activities that ended every day.

I have never seen him discouraged by age limitations or losses, such as the physical deterioration we all complained about over the years, he did not like the company of many people his age, because he said they had grown older. It made me laugh.

Even his illness hasn’t changed his attitude. A heart disease that tortured him in his later years and imposed many fears on him. He has always had an excellent sense of humor and never let his condition control his life.

Thinking about it, in this way of not giving in to limitations, I realized that he had lived his whole life like this, he never felt really comfortable with people his age, my father has always surrounded himself with young people.

He has become a mentor to many young people who are attracted to aviation, sharing their experiences and teaching many of them.

My memories of my childhood home are very similar to school, it was always full of young people, with great vitality, magnetic spirits eager to learn, with great future projects, and my father always surrounded by them, full of passion. and desire to teach others what I loved to do.

With age, that hasn’t changed. Maybe that’s the best way to get old. Without a doubt, he was the best example for me.

That’s a very difficult question to answer. The truth is that people don’t change as much as they get older, maybe what’s going on is that we’re approaching our true self, at this stage of life we don’t have much energy to hide who we really are.

In many cases, the elderly, victims of their own moodiness and lack of empathy, full of resentment and frustration, are nothing more than a reflection of how they lived their lives, probably as they were before they got older.

The thing is, it’s getting harder and harder to hide your true nature, which is beginning to be reflected in every aspect of our lives.

Some models and qualities seem to be shared by older people who grow up feeling young, in these characteristics it is possible to find the real difference between aging and aging.

Can we avoid getting old beforehand? What is the secret of older people living meaningful, complete, and fulfilling lives? We have some clues that our most dynamic elders have left us as a legacy.

Preserving passion, looking at the horizon, seems to be a key point, doing activities that motivate us, that excite us, be creative, help with common causes and fulfill your daily commitments.

Build and maintain healthy relationships with the people around us. Family is important, of course, but lasting friendships are the guarantee of future emotional well-being. Altruism is also a quality shared by older people who age well.

Helping others makes sense, that your life is precious because you’re useful to someone. Being able to help others has a very positive impact on self-esteem.

Young people also share a taste for fun and a sense of humor. Laughter is a source of vitality and no one is old enough not to be able to have fun. Cultivating a good sense of humor is a fantastic exercise for our brains.

Also very important are beliefs, personal values and spiritual practices, absolutely personal concepts, reflection of our values, which are more in tune with each other, seem to be another inexhaustible source of vitality.

These qualities that seem to make a big difference between ageing or aging are not something that develops at a certain age to age better. We don’t realize it, but we all age every day.

The way we live our lives now and how we feel today in our own skin is what will decide, in a way, whether we will enjoy our old age or suffer. Are you going to get old or old?
