Prejudice is an earlier image that we have of something or someone, an image that is in no way positive and that conditions us to see the person in a certain way.
Normally, from a very young age, the place of birth makes us acquire certain prejudices that we install in our minds and of which, even sometimes, we are not aware of.
Prejudice is the reason for fools
? Voltaire?
What prejudices do we have in our minds that we may not be aware of?For example, “Are all men the same? Or “Blonds are stupid. “You may wonder if you really have these prejudices, but when you talk and talk to others, those lines probably appear without you noticing them.
Getting rid of prejudice is not so simple, because they internalize and we are continually exposed to them, making this fight difficult to win, but, as we know, the difficult is not impossible.
What we must be clear about is that prejudice limits us, prevents us from completely opening our minds, being really free to think.
As the definition of prejudice says, it is based on the assumption and prejudice of something we don’t really know, it’s terribly absurd. The truth is that having and maintaining prejudices in our mind means 2 things:
Isn’t it true that the same thing happens when we judge a person before we meet them?Have you ever been surprised to find out that things weren’t the way you thought? That’s what happens with prejudice. It’s not good to think badly of someone beforehand: it fills us with negativity.
Prejudice is the son of ignorance
? William Hazlitt?
Although knowing all this and observing how ridiculous it can be, it is still very difficult to get rid of these prejudices that have lodged in our minds.
As we have said, it is difficult, but not impossible, to end prejudices or at least keep them in line even if our personality does not want it, we must follow some suggestions to end the pitfalls of prejudice, to tear them down, and make no mistake.
Because prejudice deceives us, they make us see a reality that is not right. They make us believe that what we assume is true and when, for example, we have to go to a new neighborhood to meet someone, we are already conditioned to think in a certain way. So, no more prejudice!
A prejudice is a vague opinion without visible means of support
? Ambrose Bierce?
Have you ever tried to eliminate them?We live conditioned and this is something with which we have to come to an agreement, but knowing prejudices will allow us to understand and combat them.
No one deserves to be judged beforehand, I’m sure you don’t like it when it happens to you, so use your will and fight the trap of prejudice, now is the time to eliminate them altogether.
