This beautiful folk tale of the East is divided into two parts. Each has its own teaching, but only one protagonist: Master Tumushido. A very wise old man, who lived thousands of years ago and is still remembered for everything he taught.
The first part of the story tells that there was an imposing samurai in a remote village, he was one of the most violent warriors in the region, everyone knew him because he was extremely irascible, he did not tolerate anyone against him and he was too proud.
“The word is half of those who pronounce it, half of those who hear it” – Michelle de la Montaigne
The samurai reacted with such ferocity and agility that everyone feared, if someone opposed him, simply drawn his sword and everyone felt intimidated immediately, this warrior went on a trip and passed through a small town where all the inhabitants seemed in a hurry. and headed to the same place.
Intrigued by what was happening, the samurai stopped one of the men rushing and asked him what was going on. The man told him that everyone was going to Master Tumushido’s house and the samurai was surprised.
“Who is Master Tumushido?” He asked right away. The man was surprised. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard from him. “He is the wisest of teachers. Every evening, at this hour, he offers us his teachings. And all the villagers will hear it?
The samurai was curious. He had never heard of Master Tumushido, but he was obviously someone everyone respected, his arrogance and pride ignited. He did not tolerate or think that anyone could be superior to him.
The samurai couldn’t stand it. I had to listen to Master Tumushido, to see if he deserved the fame he had, then he went to the place where the whole people were gathered, when he arrived, the professor said the word was the most powerful force on Earth.
The samurai shouted angrily, “You are a complete idiot!Master Tumushido rose from his chair and shouted, “How do you say that! You see how stupid you are from afar!?
Hearing this, the samurai became enraged. He jumped from where he was, sword in hand, took the master, and threatened to slit his throat. Tumushido then began to beg for his life. ” Don’t kill me, brave samurai. Forgive my offense. I realized that your sword is the most powerful thing on earth? The warrior calmed down. ” I forgive your life, are you a good man?
Then Master Tumushido said, “The word is the most powerful force on Earth. Have you seen how I dominated you through this?I wanted you to attack me, and you did. So I wanted you to calm down and you obeyed me too?”
When a second samurai heard the previous story, he felt that curiosity engarded him, wanted to meet this sage and show him that he could not be dominated by the power of speech, so he went to the village convinced that he could prove that Tumushido was just a scam.
When he arrived at the village, Master Tumushido was in the center of the square, speaking with a group of people who listened to him. The second samurai was confused in the crowd. When no one expected him, he gave a terrible scream that surprised everyone. “I challenge your old charade! If you are so wise and powerful, you can also face me and be victorious!” The wise man looked at him for a moment and then made a positive gesture, a sign that he accepted the challenge.
Everyone in the room formed a circle. In the middle were the second samurai and the master Tumushido, the latter closed his eyes and sat in an attitude of submission, the warrior thought he was intimidated and then wanted to provoke him, began to shout the worst insults he knew. Still, the teacher did not react, spent several hours doing this, until he got tired, then became exhausted, indicating that the old man was actually just a phony.
When the second samurai left, people were confused. “How is it possible for you to let yourself be insulted this way, without reacting?” they asked. “If someone gives you a gift and you don’t accept it, who owns it?That gift?” asked Master Tumushido. ” Who did you want to give it to?”A young man replied. ” The same goes for anger, insults and hatred. When they are not accepted, do they still belong to the person who brings them?” replied the professor.
