What can we do to help the pandemic?

Doctors, nurses, assistants, janitors, researchers, pharmacists, supermarket employees, carriers, farmers, police . . . In our society there are a lot of people who play an active role in the current coronavirus crisis, but in addition to what we can believe, we can also help during the pandemic in an equally relevant and essential way.

Erich Fromm said that human beings always die before they are completely born, somehow, if we think about it, the current situation offers us an exceptional opportunity to shape a new, fuller, smarter and more responsible birth. the best of us, and something like that is a change that needs to be harnessed.

  • It doesn’t matter that we’re not part of this group that’s currently on the front line to treat the sick.
  • It also does not matter that we do not belong to the professional categories responsible for providing basic items to the company.
  • We are all essential pieces in this structure that sustains survival and allows us to overcome this moment.

Most of us like to feel useful. Helping in the best possible way is almost a necessity, even more so in the current circumstances, staying between four walls watching the days go by a window becomes unpleasant and, in a short time, can despair.

As a Stanford University study by dr. Jennifer Aaker, people must feel useful.

Giving, helping, and helping others helps us strengthen our identity, that is, if we turn to those who need it at some point is not to gain an advantage in return, helping is part of who we are, the root of our values.

The fact that I cannot do anything in the midst of this global crisis can be problematic for many of us, of course, there will be those who will simply be in survival mode, only worrying about their well-being. Do not see the significance of this reality and continue to doubt the measures taken.

Human beings are complex and diverse, but despite this, the vast majority of people feel the need to be able to do more, so let’s find out what we can do to help during the pandemic.

It’s simple. Taking care of ourselves, taking care of our physical, mental and emotional well-being, we are already doing a lot, taking preventive measures to avoid contracting or spreading the virus helps contain this pandemic as quickly as possible.

That is why, and although we want to do much more, it is time to be practical and patient, as the philosopher Slavoj Zizek rightly points out. For the first time in my life, “do nothing?” It’s a positive thing. Staying in survival mode is the most important thing and that’s how we help you the most.

“Anything that can work here is allowed to prevent mental depression. Don’t you think too much in the long run? Think about today, what are you going to do until you fall asleep?-Slavoj Zizek-

There is something fundamental we can do to help during the pandemic: to care for our loved ones, it is time to create a remote connection network to be aware of the physical and emotional well-being of others.

More than ever, what we say and what we pass to the accounts of others, is the time to add, not subtract, help and not intensify fear or generate more uncertainty.

Therefore, when you read news or see something on social networks that catches our attention, be careful and apply filters to detect fraud and fake news.

Let’s avoid sharing information with our family and friends that could worsen your mood or endanger them in some way.

We all have a talent, a skill that defines us, in this way, if we want to help others during the pandemic, we can light our imagination and open the windows of our house so that it emerges and reaches other people, but how?

There are a thousand ways to help. Each of us, from the small planet of our house, can connect to this other outer universe to approach and be useful to those who need it, making the present moment more human.
