Disconnecting the mind is one of the keys to happiness, life demands a lot from us. For society, it’s not enough for us to be good at what we do, it wants us to be the best.
All we have is what we are worth, if we have money, a big house, a good car and a healthy body, we will be worth much more, people have very high expectations of us.
- No wonder we have to run away from time to time to recover.
- To relieve all the weight we carry on our backs and slow down our pace.
- The problem is that when we have to disconnect the mind from everything.
- We find that it is not an easy task.
All these expectations are surreal and disproportionate, the result of an increasingly consumerist and selfish society, where all that seems valid is our ability to produce, if we produce more, we are worth more. If we produce less, we’ll be worth less. It’s very simple.
When I sit down and do my mindfulness exercises, people often say to me, “What are you doing sitting there?Get up and do something. “
“If someone looked at one of our classes in the hospital, they’d probably find us with their eyes closed [?]. It gives the impression that absolutely nothing happens [?]. They practice” don’t do it,” at all times, in an effort to stay awake and aware of the next moment. Does he exercise mindfulness?-Jon Kabat-Zinn-
How often do we ask someone in our lives to take a break?Dozens, maybe hundreds. The demand we receive from our environment is so great that we have to say “enough” and take a moment to breathe.
We urgently need to disconnect our minds from everything and return to peace, but it is very difficult. Our father told us one thing, our mother said another, our other friends, our classmates, or other classmates. Are we bombarded with daily information in the media, on the Internet, on mobile phones?
“In our modern world, we are consumed from morning to night with endless activities. Don’t we have a lot of time or energy to examine the root causes of our happiness or suffering? -Matthew Ricard-
It’s all information and almost everything is required, doing that?Buy this laptop to be happy? Buy this perfume if you want to seduce, buy this car to feel important If you are not number one, are you nobody ??
TV commercials are full of beautiful houses, in ads people have a huge house and everyone is very happy, everything is fine, little by little we believe in this information.
Social media also sends us fake messages, people just show us what they want to show, the image they want to show and this image is the best possible, we believe that everyone lives a great story except us.
We compare ourselves to others and feel inferior. If we can’t use social media healthily, it’s not a bad idea to disconnect for a while.
Disconnecting the mind from everything is very necessary, besides it is essential for a healthy mental functioning, it would take us at least an hour (and if we don’t have it, at least half an hour) of our day just for us. To be at peace, to be calm.
During this time, we don’t have to worry about anything: no projects, no work, maybe it’s night when we get home from work, or in the afternoon, if we’re home. Whether at home or for a walk, you must concentrate on the present moment.
We will observe everything around us without judging anything. If we go out and see cars we won’t think if they’re ugly or pretty, if we know people we’ll avoid wondering if they’re pretty or not, we’re just going to look. Plans can wait. We can’t wait.
Why is it important not to judge? Judgment implies an assessment that is made negatively or positively, these ratings produce emotional states that can vary in intensity, but when we are in our moment of disconnection it is very important to try to maintain an emotional state as insensitive as possible. In this way, we will feel much more serenity.
Our mind needs this break. We are a raging ocean with waves of up to ten meters, so we must become a calm and serene sea again. Through peace and quiet, we will face life in a different way and begin to realize that external demands are so artificial that not only will we find them ridiculous, but we will no longer care.
Jon Kabat-Zinn says that, as a general rule, we have very negative thoughts and consider them real. It’s life stressful enough, do we need to add something else?
When we deepen and take this time to look inside ourselves, we understand that, as Dr. Kabat-Zinn says, we have very negative thoughts and realize that the vast majority of them come from meaningless social demands.
When we disconnect the mind from everything external and start connecting with our interior, we realize the importance of self-care.
We realize that happiness is not in such unrealistic purposes, but in all that is within us. We have the potential to be happy.
