Why do we suddenly start to feel a little uncomfortable and worried? Why do we suddenly feel our hearts beating at full speed? We start sweating when this unpleasant feeling of vertigo appears, if you’ve ever had anxiety, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Anxiety is a response to a situation that we anticipate as dangerous, that is, a danger that is not present but that we assume will be present in the future. For example: “Being surrounded by poisonous snakes scares us, however, to think that it could cope with this situation that causes us anxiety. “
- The problem is compounded when these sensations limit our daily lives; we don’t leave the house for fear of getting dizzy.
- We refuse invitations because we don’t want anyone to realize what’s happening to us and we’re starting to be afraid of a lot of events.
Gradually the illusion is lost, we feel that we do not enjoy anything, our mind is continually stuck with thoughts that, in most cases, are catastrophic or repetitive, and we feel that we are not the same as before our anxiety.
But, despite everything, anxiety is a symptom of something going wrong in our lives, possibly emotionally or personally (with others or with ourselves). It’s more or less like coughing: coughing is a symptom, it’s not a disease in itself, and you need to look for the cause so it doesn’t become more serious. To confront him, we first try to calm him down, and then we’ll address his cause. Both are necessary, and with anxiety it happens in the same way: first we try to reduce it and then we will have to find out what is behind it. All the reactions caused by anxiety scare us a lot, but if we try to control them we trigger more fear and our symptoms get worse. In this case, the control leads to uncontrolled. But if, on the other hand, we are able to understand our discomfort, a sense of tranquility is created. A good exercise is to ask yourself:
How do I start to feel anxious? How do I know it causes me anxiety? What do I really need to change in my life to stop feeling anxious?
We must learn to identify the sensations in order to manage them, therefore, we must first prepare ourselves with relaxation and breathing exercises, if we do not practice while we are calm, it makes no sense to use these techniques in the middle of an anxiety attack. .
