Yin and Yang are concepts that come from Chinese philosophy, but specifically Taoism, and speak of the principle of the duality of existence.
This philosophy is a line of thought created by Lao Tse, a figure who does not know if it actually existed, the truth is that these concepts began to be present in the 6th century a. C.
- Lao Tse’s philosophy was recorded in a book called Tao Te King.
- A name that means something like “the path of virtue.
- “This is where the concepts of Yin and Yang were first mentioned and developed.
- Which translated as “dark and light”.
“If you want to live a balanced life, you have to admit that human nature is yin and yang, day and night, love and hate, you can’t reject that. Is it about embracing reality and celebrating the fact that they are weak, and from there comes great power?-Adam Darsky-
Lao Tse speaks of Yin and Yang as a duality, hence the principle of the duality of existence, which is present in all that exists: day and night, man and woman, life and death, etc.
They are two opposing states that are not contradictory, but complement each other and depend on each other. One does not want to impose oneseed on the other, but to exist in balance with it.
For Taoism everything constantly changes naturally, winter arrives after autumn, and so on, without us doing anything to get there.
The same goes for human realities. The way of virtue is not to change these changes, eer in nature or in life itself.
Personal desires and goals make us want to change this natural order. “Non-action,” on the other hand, allows things to circulate and develop as they should, without changes introduced from the outside.
Yin and Yang represent this continuous change, harmony is to balance the duality expressed in these two concepts, in turn, disarmony is linked to the excessive dominance of either aspect, which seeks to negate the principle of duality of existence.
Yin is anything feminine, soft, wet, earthy, passive, absorbent and dark. Yang is related to the masculine, rough, dry, aerated, active, penetrating and luminous. Elements and features are present in everything that exists.
According to Taoism, the concepts of Yin and Yang are governed by a number of principles of their own. These principles define the dynamics between these two factors and guide them to apply them to specific situations.
The above principles are
It is important to note that the concepts of Yin and Yang are part of a philosophy and not of a scientific theory, although quantum physics has developed thesis that somehow coincide with them.
Still, this idea of the duality of the principle of existence has several practical applications.
Yin and Yang’s concepts apply directly to martial arts practices, ideas such as defense and attack, concentration and relaxation come directly from them.
In addition, Chinese medicine also uses duality and complementarity, both to diagnose and treat all diseases. An expression is given through this phrase: “Sedate excess and tone the disabled. “
Similarly, Yin and Yang concepts can be applied in everyday life to achieve inner harmony. The acceptance of detachment is often called letting go.
May the nights of our lives follow the days, may joy come after sadness, etc. Let us not pretend that everything is always positive or complete, let us assume the principle of the duality of existence.
