You are your present, your past

Our past is the path we have chosen to get to where we are today, so it has a great influence on what we think, what we say, how we act or the different coping strategies we put into practice. learned, the people we know or what we have learned throughout our lives are part of who we are today.

What we did a long time ago defined who we were at the time, but it turns out that you are no longer that person, you are the person of today, human beings change, we do it every day, with every new information or learning. we’ve acquired, and that’s inevitable.

  • So repenting of what we’ve done in the past only hurts us.
  • It’s true that guilt is an emotion that.
  • Well managed.
  • Can help us repair those actions in which we fail.
  • But if we abuse it too much and blame.
  • It becomes an obsession.
  • It can become a toxic emotion that escapes from the present of our hands.
  • As well as not helping us overcome our past.

When we say that something is unreal, we mean the fact that it is not tangible, we cannot access it, or touch it, feel it, see it or hear it, if something cannot be perceived with our five senses, it means that it does not exist. This is not to say that it didn’t exist or wasn’t real any other time in your life. Obviously it happened, we know it happened, but now it’s only real in our minds, in our psychological reality.

Therefore, it is worth “replacing” in the present whenever our mind travels to the past. The same is true when we travel into the future and are overwhelmed by unnecessary anxiety. In any case, the only thing that really exists is the here and now, the before and after live alone in our heads.

One thing is the reality of the present, on which we really have the power to influence, and another is psychological reality, here some of the actions we put into practice in the present are not only practically useless, but also hurtful, because they make us suffer for what has happened or what remains to be done. Today’s mourning for something that happened yesterday is a limited waste of time.

The first step is to realize that the past is not real, it may have been at another time, but not today, not now or right now, so let’s stop giving importance and value to something that no longer exists. It is to draw a lesson so that now, in the present, this past will be useful and part of us, but without leaving it more than necessary in our “reality of now”.

So when you realize that your thoughts contain one, should it be?Or “Shouldn’t this have happened?” This exercise, if practiced consciously, will make you accustomed to not insisting on what has already happened.

Finally, stop doing everything you do in the present that aims to magically change the past, you have to accept that the past cannot be changed: what has already happened and that is what should have happened, whether good or bad.

Nor is it worth punishing yourself, hurting others, praying, begging or starting to ruminate, the only thing that can be used is the teaching we can obtain, so as not to fall into the same trap today or tomorrow.

Live the present, focus on what surrounds you: the people you see now, the objects you touch, what you feel, what you eat, what you hear, there’s nothing else, at least for now. Live it today and get rid of your past.
